New HOV lane announced
25/10/2007

Work began this week upon a £3.95 million motorway High Vehicle Occupancy (HOV) lane in Yorkshire. In a bid to reduce congestion, the 1.7 mile stretch will link the southbound M606 near Bradford to the eastbound M62 close to Leeds.

Recent studies illustrated 84% of the vehicles using the congested Chain Bar junction only had one occupant. Once open, vehicles with 2 or more occupants will be able to reduce their rush hour commute by 8 minutes.

Liftshare welcomes the news of the new lane.

"We're overjoyed that the Government is recognising the benefits of car sharing. Initiatives such as HOV lanes are an ideal way of encouraging and rewarding people for using their cars more efficiently and should help to achieve real reductions in congestion", says Ali Clabburn, Liftshare's founder.

"The new lane will not only raise awareness of car sharing but will also encourage those who may not have considered this mode of transport to give it a go and experience the benefits for themselves".
