300,000th person signs up to Liftshare

As drivers continue to look for ways to save money during the recession, the number of people to sign up to the UK's largest car-sharing scheme has hit 300,000.

The figure represents almost 1% of the nation's 33.8 million drivers, a significant statement on how car-sharing is becoming widely accepted and increasingly embraced as a mainstream form of transport.

"I am really pleased with car-sharing," said Tony Woodward, a member who joined the Liftshare network in October. "I was paying £60 a week in petrol driving from Congleton to Altrincham on my own - a round trip of 50 miles. Now I share with three guys and I pay just £15 a week - and have three new friends who live in my home town."
