Case studies - Business Parks - Hinxton Hall

In 2002, single-occupancy vehicle use on the Genome Park campus near Cambridge was 70%. By 2007, this had reduced to less than 50%. The campus achieved this thanks to a successful Green Travel Plan, which included a liftshare scheme providing journey-matching tools for both car and bike journeys.

The campus promotes green opportunities on a regular basis and often send out emails, have promotional days and offer incentives to encourage staff to join the scheme. The take-up rate of the car-share scheme is currently at around 30% and a huge proportion of people are also cycling, many of whom do so through our BikeBUDi system.

437 members and 38% match rate currently. Genome Park are very pleased with the overall strategy and are happy to speak to people about what they have done and how.

Facilities Manager Dawn Wise championed the Green Travel Plan from its implementation in 2002. She said:

“The uniquely branded software and services provided by liftshare have helped ensure that car-sharing at the campus has played a key role in Green Travel initiatives and helped reduce the number of single-occupancy vehicles travelling to work.

Information that can be generated by the system - such as money saved - helps us promote the service's advantages, while information on CO2 produced is useful to help us meet our social and corporate responsibilities.”

“Car-sharing systems can help companies prove their green credentials and can help cut costs by reducing the number of parking spaces they have to provide.”
