liftshare Founder, Ali Clabburn

Ali is dedicated to helping communities travel more sustainably through successful car-share schemes. His mission is to ‘encourage and enable more efficient use of the car’.

Ali set up liftshare in 1998 whilst at university. What started as a simple notice board in the student union has become the largest car sharing scheme in the world with over 80,000 people sharing every day. Over 1,000 employers and communities have joined the liftshare network.

Ali and his team have been awarded several accolades including the Queen’s Award for Innovation through Technology, Business Commitment to the Environment Award 2007, Business in the Community National Award for Excellence and the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

IT

Our team of software developers and designers are constantly developing and refining the capabilities of the liftshare software, making innovative use of emerging technologies.

The team has many years of experience in software design. We strive to make all liftshare schemes visually appealing, easy to use and ensure that members are able to find the best possible match for their journeys. In support of our clients we also ensure accurate collection of statistical data which is available on the monitoring pages.

They are also able to provide bespoke software solutions and design services to aid our clients in achieving their goals.

Client Account Management

Our friendly, professional team provide car-share managers with training on all aspects of the system including the monitoring pages (monitoring and reporting functions), advice on marketing and promoting your scheme, best practice guidance and are on the end of the phone if you need them.

Our Client Account Managers can also visit your organisation to help run promotional events and provide advice specific to your premises.

Communications & Campaigning

As well as raising awareness of car-sharing through national and social media, our communications department also provides media support to clients, helping them put together press releases, deal with media enquiries and provide member case studies to support articles and releases.

The biggest communications job of the year is the organisation of our awareness-raising campaign, liftshare Week, which gains coverage nationally and helps encourage thousands more people to give car-sharing a try.

In pursuit of our mission to make more effective use of the car, we actively lobby the Government, liaise with ministers and work with the DfT to ensure car-sharing remains on the agenda.  As a respected authority on car-sharing, we conduct our own research and also provide statistical data for others researching and writing papers on the subject.
