Help out your diesel-driving friends!
20/02/2012

Diesel hit an all-time high at the weekend.

As the average price hit 143.05p per litre, RAC spokesman John Franklin said: “The new record price of diesel shows the issue of rising fuel prices isn’t going away. Drivers continue to be hit hard in their pockets during these tough economic times.

“With a further 3p-a-litre fuel duty rise planned in August, we hope the chancellor will take a look at this in the Budget.”

In the meantime, you could help any friends who drive diesel cars, by pointing them towards our savings calculator. This will show them exactly how much they could be saving themselves by car-sharing with one (or more) others. It could make a huge difference to their lives…

Will you give up your car if fuel hits £2 a litre?
03/02/2012

Fuel prices have rocketed over recent years – there's no other word for it. Five years ago it was just 88p; today it's typically £1.36.

And now we're talking about what happens when it hits £2 a litre.

Well it seems 1 in 5 drivers will give up their car when that happens.

According to research from insurance company Hastings Direct, 20% of drivers will give up their car completely if prices at the pump hit £2 a litre.

So it seems that many more people need to know about liftshare.com!

Remember that motorists would simply need to share their journeys with one other person, and they'd effectively be paying £1. (Share with two people, and they'd be back to 1999/2000 prices).

The research also established that increasing fuel costs have already impacted on how frequently motorists use their cars: over three-quarters of those questioned admit they don't use their cars as frequently, and one percent have given up car ownership altogether.

Looking to spend less in 2012?
06/01/2012

We all know that the new year can often bring with it a bit of a squeeze, after an indulgent festive period! And 2012 is no exception. Unfortunately though, it’s likely to continue past January...

Rail fares increase by 5.9% this month; petrol sales slumped in the first nine months of 2011 and look set to fall further as prices continue to rise; family incomes are impacted by salary squeezes and rising bills.

Why not make car-sharing a New Year’s resolution for 2012?

Regularly sharing your commute with just one other person can typically save you about £800 a year - not to mention provide great company for those gloomy winter days!

Mixing the age-groups up a bit!

We thought you might enjoy this recent news story from ITV West Country.

For anyone who's ever hesitated about inviting an older (or younger) person to car-share, these two guys are an example of how age doesn't matter if you get on well.

Nick and Rob each save £900 a year. And as Nick says: "It's great to have someone to chat to, we have some good banter, and it makes the journey seem to pass much quicker."

Car-sharing helped me impress my daughter!
02/12/2011

We love this story from one car-sharing Dad:

We car-sharers don't just talk about the weather and whose sequins sparkled on Strictly. But a shared journey represents an opportunity to pool knowledge as well as fuel bills, because the person in your passenger seat may prove to be expert on the most arcane of subjects.

My daughter had asked for help with her physics homework. "Dad, why does a neutron turn into a proton during beta radiation?"

"Well, it's pretty straightforward… but it's getting late. We'll go over it tomorrow night, I promise." After she'd gone to bed, I scratted through some old books but there was precious little on why.

Luckily, there are no fewer than five nuclear engineers in my carpool so I put it to the brains trust in the morning. That night, I sounded perilously like I knew what I was talking about. And, just for a second, was that a flicker of respect in the teen's eyes?  That had to be worth something, on top of the fuel savings…
