Liftshare revs up to 200,000 members
20/11/2007

On the same day as Gordon Brown announced his plans for Britain to become a world leader in the fight against climate change, membership of Liftshare.com, the UK’s largest car sharing network hits 200,000 – saving a whopping 13,500 of CO2! More than 4,500,000 trees would have to be planted to achieve the same impact on CO2 levels.

Growing at a rapid rate of 300 members a day, Liftshare is experiencing exponential growth. By matching individuals travelling in the same direction, the pioneering system helps thousands of individuals every day to save money and do their bit for the environment.

By sharing their daily journey a Liftshare member typically saves themselves £1000 and a tonne of CO2 per year, reducing their carbon footprint by as much as 10% a year.

Regular car sharer Almina from Harrogate comments:

“My carsharer and I are now good friends. We look forward to our drives to and from work and both enjoy having someone to chat to on the dull commute! And it was so easy to get into a routine and we both love the fact that we're saving money!”

Every day there are 38 million empty seats on UK roads. With 200,000 members Liftshare is now the largest system of its kind in the world but there are still millions of us in the UK who should consider sharing more of their journeys.
