BBC inspires over 1,000 drivers to car-share
04/06/2008

liftshare.com saw its largest ever sign-up of new members on 2 June, as fuel price worries – combined with a car-sharing feature on BBC Breakfast TV – inspired 1,050 drivers to seek a liftshare partner.

Monday’s huge influx of new members tripled the average number of people signing up each day the previous week. It was to a large extent in response to the BBC programme, which was broadcast just as many commuters would have been heading out to make their usual expensive, solitary journey into work.

This just shows how many drivers out there are open to car-sharing,” said liftshare MD, Ali Clabburn. “Right now, the fuel prices are causing genuine financial concerns among many drivers – but often they are not aware how easy it is to find someone to share their journeys with. So if you are already car-sharing, tell all your friends and family about it!”
