liftshare welcomes government proposals to introduce HOV lanes
05/07/2004

liftshare.com, the UK 's largest car-sharing company, today welcomed the anticipated government proposals for the introduction of High Occupancy Vehicle lanes on sections of the M1 and M3.

Alistair Darling, the Transport Secretary, is expected to unveil plans later this week which will see the introduction of lanes for the exclusive use of vehicles carrying two or more people.

liftshare has been lobbying the Government to introduce HOV lanes, in the belief that they will both ease congestion and reduce pollution whilst also avoiding the need to build additional roads or widen existing ones.

We're very excited about these plans, says Ali Clabburn, Managing Director of liftshare.com.

With the growth of on-line matching services such as liftshare.com, the UK now has the infrastructure in place to enable the effective use of HOV lanes. We're looking forward to the introduction of these lanes, and hope that they will result in more efficient use of motorways across the UK .
