Car-sharing can make your journey safer

Car-sharing can make your journey saferOK, so we keep saying that car-sharing has multiple benefits - and it really does! But the problem is, we just can't cover all of them in one go.

So in the run-up to the first ever nationwide Liftshare Week, we're going to suggest just a few of the ways that car-sharing really can change your life for the better. And some of them may surprise you. Like this first one...

Did you know that car-sharing can actually make your journey significantly safer?

Independent research by Privilege Insurance found that drivers carrying a passenger were involved in half as many accidents as drivers on their own. (Those lone drivers also lost concentration almost twice as much as those driving with a passenger.) And while 20 per cent of lone motorists had been pulled over by the police due to the poor quality of their driving, just nine per cent had been pulled over when driving with someone else in the car.

We hear the same story from Liftsharers themselves:

"I get very bored and start falling asleep without having someone to talk to." Andy, Oxford

"Even sharing on odd days a week makes a big difference to both of us in terms of tiredness and a chance to unwind." Kate, Bromyard

"One of the greatest advantages of car-sharing is being able to take a break from the driving now and then, and if the week has been particularly tough, take a short snooze in the passenger seat." Glen, Stirling

(Car-sharing also offers personal security benefits in the event of a break-down, driving in unfamiliar areas / at night, and walking to or from car parks in the dark or in quiet areas. Something women in particular often find very reassuring).
