New research carried out by COMPAREtheMARKET.com reveals that on average a football fan will travel 3,395 miles a season to attend away games.
Research carried out by a newly established motor insurance comparison site www.COMPAREtheMARKET.com calculated the mileage and expense accrued by fans of teams in the Championship. The research revealed that on average a supporter will spend around £25 on petrol to get to each away game. Plymouth Argyle supporters are travelling the furthest each season, notching up a staggering 6,056 miles with Birmingham City supporters travelling the least miles, around 2,406 per season.
One simple way in which football lovers can reduce their expense is to visit www.footballcarshare.com a new website aimed at saving supporters money whilst reducing congestion and parking issues around the UK's football grounds. The free website matches together supporters for the same club who are making similar journeys thereby enabling them not only to share lifts on the longer distance away matches but also regularly travel together for home matches.
Ali Clabburn, Norwich City supporter and the man behind footballcarshare.com believes that "car sharing to the match is not only a great way to save money but it's also great fun to travel up with other fans and gives you the chance the talk the game over.
By getting together with other supporters fans could be saving themselves £100's as well as building some great friendships."
